Nature Reserve of Rivers Ciane and AnapoThree km south of Siracusa (Syracuse) is the starting point for boat trips. The vegetation is rich in reeds, age-old ash trees, eucalyptus and papyrus.
Sea Nature Reserve of Plemmirio
10 km south of Siracusa (Syracuse). Evidence of prehistory: necropolis, six latomie, cisterns (XIX century) and underground tunnels used during the Second World War. There are also a lot of underwater caves: coral, sponge, cicada and different species of fish. At the extreme point of the peninsula is Capo Murro di Porco, and with a bit luck, here you can observe tuna fish, curls, sharks, dolphins or whales.
Nature Reserve of Vendicari
Between Noto and Marzamemi, 30 km south of Siracusa (Syracuse). Evidence of tuna-fishing, which stopped in 1943, churches, catacombs and necropolis; Salt pans. The Reserve is also very important as a stopping point for the migrations of birds from north to south and vice versa: heron, stork and gull.
Nature Reserve of Cavagrande del Cassibile
20 km south of Siracusa (Syracuse). Is a nearly 10 km long gorge formed by the river Cassibile.
Nature Reserve of Pantalica
The Necropolis of Pantalica is a large necropolis with about 5000 tombs dating from the 13th to the 7th centuries BC. Pantalica is situated in the valleys of the rivers Anapo and Calcinara, between the towns of Ferla and Sortino, 30 km north of Siracusa (Syracuse). Together with the city of Siracusa (Syracuse), Pantalica is listed as "Syracuse and the Rocky Necropolis of Pantalica" on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
